Welcome to Sarah Jerrom's official website.
Sarah's News....
~Sep. 6~ For the past eight months I've been working on writing and arranging an original music project (more details to follow!). Currently I'm in Chennai, India, teaching with the international faculty at the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music (SAM) for two and a half months. With guitarist and composer Prasanna as its president, SAM is India's first contemporary music college. For more information on SAM, check out www.sam.org.in.
I've also started up a blog: http://sarahjerrom.blogspot.com. There are already some great travel and musical stories, so stay tuned!
~Mar.6~ More Kenny Wheeler music coming up! I'm thrilled to be joining the Hart House Jazz Ensemble, led by conductor and drummer Ernesto Cervini, for two shows at the end of March to perform excerpts from Wheeler's "Music for Large and Small Ensembles". Please see the calendar page for all the details.
~Nov.29~PIaying two back-to-back shows this week, both which will feature the music of the great composer and trumpet player Kenny Wheeler. I am super excited to play this beautiful music! The first show is with my quartet on Thursday, Dec. 3 at Gate 403 and the second show will feature my quintet on Friday, Dec. 4 at The Tranzac Club. The cover for both shows is pay-what-you-can. Please visit my calendar page for all the gory details. Looking forward to seeing you lovely people at one show or the other, or, even better, both!
~June 13~ I've got some exciting shows coming up! If you're in the beautiful town of Lakefield on July 4th, come by the Lakefield Jazz, Art & Craft Festival. It's only $8 admission for an entire day of live, outdoor jazz. I'll be performing with my quintet at 2:30pm. Please visit my calendar page for more details on my exciting line-up for this event. Hope you also can make it out to the Tranzac on Sunday, June 28 to see the Debonaires play tribute to Canadian country tunes just in time for Canada Day!
~Aug. 20~ This summer, for me, has been the season of learning new instruments. I picked up a bodhran (an Irish drum used in traditional Celtic and Irish music) in July when I was out east in Halifax and have been happily hitting it for hours on end. It might just make its debut this Saturday with Grand Parade, my Irish band, at our show at the Tranzac (please visit the calendar for more details!). Today I'm working on mastering the jig stroke- yay! FYI, Grand Parade has a brand spankin' new website: www.myspace.com/grandparademusic. There are already some tunes up on the site, recorded at our debut St. Paddy's Day show when we were known as Full Irish Breakfast. Feel free to visit the site and have a listen, and then add us as a friend too! I've also been strumming away at the guitar and even trying a hand at accompanying myself and improvising on the piano with some jazz standards. Fun!
~ June 17~ Sorry, sorry, sorry. The updates never happened. But it's really the result of a good thing. The Banff jazz workshop was such an amazing experience and very intense- a total immersion in music for three weeks, 24/7. I wrote some new material out there, and now I'm eager to play, write and perform even more. June is an exciting and busy month- I have shows with two different groups during the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival where we'll be showcasing some new original material. Check out my calendar page for more info on when and where, and other upcoming gigs. I also have a live in-studio interview on www.thatradio.com, a Toronto internet radio station, on June 24th at 12:30 (there may also be a live performance involved!). You can tune in and listen to the live stream as you type away at your computer. Thanks for reading, and see you soon!
~Apr. 5~ I'm thrilled to have been accepted into the Banff International Jazz and Creative Music Workshop, headed by Dave Douglas, which will take place for three weeks in May. Keep checking my website for more updates on this exciting experience! Also, a little FYI announcement: my new Celtic band, Full Irish Breakfast, is now known as Grand Parade, which will hopefully head off confusion about breakfast being served instead of a concert! Our St. Patrick's Day show at the Tranzac was really fun- thanks to our new fans who came out to support our debut show. Grand Parade is back at the Tranzac on June 21- check out the calendar page for more info. I'll also be playing at the Tranzac during the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival with my quintet on June 25.

~Feb. 29~ Check out the calendar page for information on my newly-formed band, Full Irish Breakfast. We're performing our debut show on Mar. 16th, the eve of St. Patrick's Day. The band members are a combination of jazz and Irish musicians, resulting in an electic, improvised approach to traditional Irish music. I'm excited to be a part of this unique new sound!
~Dec. 10~ I am thrilled to be returning to my hometown of St. Catharines for a special Christmas show at Cat's Caboose, with special guest John Sherwood, on Dec. 20th. Mark McIntyre and Ernesto Cervini will be joining me onstage on bass and drums, respectively. It's going to be fun and admission is free- I'm looking forward to seeing some dear St. Catharines friends there! Please visit the "calendar" page for full details.Reservations recommended-check out

You'll find out what simple steps you can take to fight our climate crisis! ~May 5~ I was honoured to be featured as this week's "Jazz Crusade Unsigned" artist on BBC Radio 2's programme, "Jazz Crusades", hosted by Courtney Pine. Courtney played the title track from Illuminations, while my dear family, friends and fans in England tuned in to listen.
